Dell Young Leader Alum Theophilus: Bridging Clinical Care and Technology for Better Outcomes

Nearly 1,000 Dell Young Leaders graduates have successfully transitioned into the world of work, with 98% securing jobs or further studies within three months after graduation. The Dell Young Leaders program is more than a scholarship, it provides academic, wellness, and career support – ensuring students stay on track, achieve their goals, and step into meaningful careers.

Dell Young Leader alum, Theophilus Ramatjie, completed a Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice and pursued postgraduate studies in emergency care and healthcare technology management. Now a Clinical Digital Lead at a leading private healthcare provider, he drives digital transformation in clinical settings, ensuring cost-effective, technology-enabled care for patients.

Q: How has the Dell Young Leaders program helped you transition into meaningful employment?

The program provided personalised career coaching, employment workshops, and leadership training that gave me the confidence and skills to secure leadership roles and grow in my career. The program instilled resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning – values that continue to guide me today.

Q: After earning your Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice, you pursued further studies. What led you to specialise in healthcare technology management?

I saw the need to bridge the gap between medicine and technology. My postgraduate studies equipped me with the skills to manage healthcare technologies that can improve patient outcomes and improve operational efficiency.

Q: Today you are a Clinical Digital Lead at a private healthcare provider. What does your role entail?

I help implement and refine digital tools that improve clinical care for patients. I analyse data and collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure technology enhances efficiency, and supports better patient outcomes, all while keeping the human element of healthcare intact. I also provide training and support to healthcare providers, ensuring the best and safest digitally enabled care for patients.

Q: What makes you so passionate about what you do?

My appreciation for technology in healthcare to enhance the quality of patient care fuels my passion and commitment. I am motivated by the potential of technology to streamline healthcare processes and improve patient outcomes.

Q: What advice would you give to graduates entering the healthcare technology industry, or that need to embrace technology in a traditional working environment?

Stay curious, be adaptable, seek mentorship, and communicate effectively. It is also important to always consider the ethical implications of technology.  

Q: How do you stay up to date with the latest trends in digital healthcare?

I attend conferences, complete online courses, and follow the progress made by leading healthcare technology companies on LinkedIn, as an example.
